New Year, New Glow
How to Refresh Your Skincare Routine for 2025
Finding a skincare routine that works for you can feel overwhelming. Let’s face it—there are so many choices and decisions to make! What may work beautifully for your friend could cause major irritation for you. Skincare isn’t one-size-fits-all, and unfortunately, we can’t always trust influencers promoting free products or celebrities launching yet another skincare line.
The beauty industry is a multi-billion-dollar powerhouse, and social media often glorifies overconsumption. It’s easy to get swept up in the constant flow of new “must-haves” and miracle products.
So how do we, as consumers, sift through all the noise? How do we stop wasting time and money on products that don’t live up to their promises?
As a licensed esthetician with over 13 years of experience, here’s my advice:
Start with a basic, foundational routine and build from there. Every skincare routine should include:
A cleanser suitable for your specific skin type
Daily moisturizer
SPF protection of at least 30
Antioxidants for preventative maintenance
Tips to Reset Your Skincare in 2025
1. Declutter and Check Expiry Dates
Go through all of your products and dispose of anything expired (yes, skincare expires!). Look for a symbol on the packaging that looks like a jar with a number inside (usually 12-18). This tells you how many months the product is good for once opened. Whether it’s a product you used once or one you loved but forgot about, let go of the guilt and move on.
2. Let Go of Products That No Longer Serve You
Stop holding onto products that aren’t working for you. We’ve all said, “I’ll just finish what I have at home first,” but if a product leaves your skin irritated, dry, or sensitive, it’s time to let it go. Using ineffective products can make things worse in the long run and will take longer to achieve your goals.
3. Get Real About What You Actually Use
Maybe you bought a viral mask that doesn’t vibe with you, and now it’s collecting dust. That’s okay! Becoming more mindful and intentional about your skincare in 2025 means letting go of those purchases.
4. Highlight the Products You Love
Have products you know work wonders but forgot to use? Bring them out of the drawer! Create a cute counter or shelf to put your favorites on display. This visual reminder can help you stay consistent. You can even set a phone reminder to carve out 10-15 minutes each week for a face mask or skincare ritual.
